Who Are the Eternals Characters

Lexus has partnered with Marvel’s Eternals to showcase the All-New IS 500, but if you’re not a comic book aficionado it’s understandable that you wouldn’t be familiar with this set of superheroes, where they come from, or why they didn’t appear in Avengers: Endgame.

The Eternals are a race of humans that were genetically enhanced by the god-like Celestials over a million years ago. (If you don’t remember, Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a Celestial) The Eternals are extremely powerful, immortal, and benevolent beings as opposed to their counterparts, the Deviants, who are also powerful and immortal, but malevolent. Their home is Olympia, and yes, they have a partnership with the Olympian gods.

Who are the Eternals?

• Sersi (Gemma Chan) — controls non-living matter
• Ikaris (Richard Madden) — can fly and shoot powerful light beams from his eyes
• Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) — controls energy with his hands
• Sprite (Lia McHugh) — creates illusions
• Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) — extremely intelligent and an inventor
• Makkari (Lauren Ridloff) — super speed
• Druig (Barry Keoghan) — can manipulate other people’s thoughts
• Gilgamesh (Don Lee) — super strength and fighting
• Ajak (Salma Hayek) — ability to heal others
• Thena (Angelina Jolie) — an acrobatic fighter who creates weapons from thin air

The Eternals vowed to stay out of Earth’s affairs except in extreme danger, so the question of why they didn’t thwart Thanos’ snap will be a major plot point in the new movie.
