Highlight: The Urban League of Louisiana’s Automotive Apprenticeship Program | New Orleans, LA

On August 25, 2023, one of New Orleans’ local new stations, WGNO, met with members of the Auto Service Technicians Training Program at Lexus of New Orleans to share what all they do and the purpose of the training.
In March of 2023, the Urban League of Louisiana, along with the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), and the National Urban League worked with the Baton Rouge Community College McKay Automotive Training Center to present its automotive apprenticeship program. This program was created for more women and minorities in the New Orleans area to hire into the automotive industry.
WGNO met with the Louisiana Auto Dealers Association, the Urban League of Louisiana, and a graduate of the program to discuss what it is all about. They got to see what each student gets to learn about, how the program works, and its overall impact on New Orleans and surrounding areas.

The program’s objectives include advancing careers with franchised dealerships and encouraging diversity and inclusion within the upcoming workforce, which includes technicians at new-car and truck dealerships.
“The Urban League of Louisiana is celebrating 85 years of removing barriers and creating pathways for African American and other underserved communities in Louisiana,” said Judy Reese Morse, President & CEO of Urban League of Louisiana, according to a press release from the Urban League of Louisiana.
